1
Learn the Language
Even if your classes are in English, make the effort to learn the local
language. There are many language apps and videos to get you started. Common
phrases like “hello”, “can you help me?”, and “thank you” can help you break the
ice and connect better with locals. And don’t worry about mistakes, they’ll
actually help you learn even faster.
2
Research Before You Go
A little prep can make a huge difference. Before you set off, learn about your
destination’s customs, cultural do’s and don’ts, and basic etiquette. How do the
locals greet each other? What do they wear to school? What’s considered polite
or rude? Knowing this in advance can help you avoid awkward moments and set the
foundation for a smoother start.
3
Manage Your Money Wisely
Budgeting is key when living abroad. It might take
some time to figure out how much things really cost, but once you have a sense
of your daily expenses, set a weekly budget (and stick to it). With a bit of
smart planning and self-control, you can enjoy your overseas experience without
having to worry about money all the time.
4
Dive Into the Local Culture
Now that you’re all set up, it’s time to soak it
all in. Try local foods, explore different neighborhoods, and observe how people
live, work, and play. Don’t be afraid to chat with locals either — they’ll often
share insights you won’t find in any guidebook. Fully immersing yourself in the
culture will help you feel more at home more quickly.
